A new survey has highlighted serious cybersecurity weaknesses across workplaces in Pakistan, exposing gaps in policies, employee practices, and overall digital security readiness.
According to the findings, a significant number of employees believe that existing cybersecurity rules in their organizations are either excessive or not properly aligned with real-world needs. Around 39% of professionals expressed concerns about the effectiveness of their company’s cybersecurity policies, indicating a disconnect between management strategies and employee understanding.
One of the most alarming issues identified is the lack of clear policies regarding the use of personal devices. Nearly 38% of respondents reported that their organizations do not have defined rules for using non-corporate devices, increasing the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access.
The survey also revealed risky behavior among employees. About 26% admitted to installing software on work devices without approval from IT departments, while a smaller percentage said that users in their organizations can install any software freely, further exposing systems to vulnerabilities.

Additionally, the rise of hybrid work environments, cloud tools, and AI-based applications has made it harder for organizations to maintain strict control over cybersecurity practices. These trends are creating new “shadow IT” risks, where employees use unauthorized tools or platforms without proper oversight.
Experts warn that such gaps in workplace cybersecurity can make organizations more vulnerable to cyberattacks, data leaks, and operational disruptions. This is particularly concerning as Pakistan continues to witness a growing number of cyber incidents across both public and private sectors.
The findings underscore the urgent need for companies to update their cybersecurity frameworks, improve employee awareness, and enforce stricter IT governance policies to ensure a more secure digital working environment.
