In December 2024, local mobile companies in Pakistan manufactured and assembled 2.95 million units, marking a 28% increase compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). In the fourth quarter of 2024 (4Q2024), the total number of units manufactured and assembled rose to 8.79 million, up 67% from 5.25 million units in the third quarter (3Q2024).

For the entire year of 2024, local manufacturers assembled 31.38 million units, a 47% increase over 2023. This substantial growth is largely attributed to import restrictions imposed last year. Key factors driving this growth include economic recovery, a larger share of locally assembled mobile phones, higher taxes on imported phones, and the country’s growing population.

Out of the 31.38 million locally assembled mobile phones in 2024, 59% (18.64 million units) were smartphones, while the remaining 41% (12.74 million units) were 2G phones.

In 2024, Pakistan was able to fulfill 95% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly, a significant increase compared to the 67% average over the past five years (2019-2023) and the 47% average over the past eight years (2016-2023).
