The long-standing rivalry between Pakistan and India in the 2025 Asia Cup has intensified after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) raised objections over Fakhar Zaman’s controversial dismissal during Sunday’s match.
According to team management sources, Pakistan has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the incident. Fakhar Zaman was declared out in the third over after edging a delivery that was taken low by Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson. The on-field umpires referred the decision to third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge, who ruled in India’s favor despite inconclusive video replays that many argued lacked clear evidence.
Fakhar’s visible frustration while walking back to the dugout mirrored the outrage among fans and former cricketers, who flooded social media questioning both the accuracy of the technology and the umpire’s judgment. Many Pakistani supporters felt the timing of the decision unfairly shifted the momentum of the match.

This is not the first time Pakistan has voiced concerns over officiating in high-stakes matches against India. Earlier in the tournament, PCB had also raised objections about match referee Andy Pycroft’s decisions.
By officially filing a protest, the PCB has made it clear that it expects transparency and accountability from the ICC. As the governing body reviews the complaint, Fakhar’s dismissal remains one of the most debated moments of the Asia Cup, underscoring how a single call can influence cricket’s fiercest rivalry.
With a potential third clash between the two sides looming, the controversy has only heightened the already intense atmosphere of the tournament.
