The Punjab Education Board has affirmed that the upcoming SSC (matric) exams will proceed as scheduled, despite a prior request from the All Pakistan Private Schools Association (APPSA) to postpone the exams by at least a month. In a letter addressed to the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab and the Secretary of Higher Education, APPSA Central President Mian Shabir Ahmad Hashmi outlined the adverse impacts of smog and the extended winter holidays on students. Hashmi also emphasized the significant study time lost due to the prolonged winter break.
Contrary to the appeal made by APPSA, the provincial education board has unequivocally stated that there will be no postponement of the exams, maintaining the original schedule. The SSC examinations are slated to commence on March 1, with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore releasing a tentative date sheet. Officials from the education board argued that any delay in the matric examinations could disrupt the timelines for higher-level exams.

In contrast, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government recently acceded to the requests of parents and students by delaying the annual SSC (9th and 10th grade) exams, originally set to begin on March 14, by more than a month. The decision was influenced by concerns raised about the exams coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan.
