The Punjab government has officially announced a six-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha 2026, providing citizens with an extended break to celebrate one of the biggest Islamic festivals in the country.
According to the official notification, government offices and public institutions across Punjab will remain closed from June 4 to June 9, 2026. The decision was made to facilitate travel, family gatherings, and religious activities associated with Eid-ul-Adha.
The extended holidays are expected to increase travel activity across Pakistan, especially as many people plan to visit their hometowns and relatives during the festive period. Authorities have also directed relevant departments to ensure smooth traffic management, public transportation, sanitation, and security arrangements during the holidays.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. The festival is marked by special prayers, animal sacrifices, charitable giving, and communal gatherings.
The federal government is also expected to issue a nationwide holiday notification soon, which may align closely with Punjab’s announced schedule. Meanwhile, markets, shopping centers, and cattle markets across the province are already witnessing increased activity ahead of Eid preparations.
Officials have urged citizens to follow cleanliness guidelines during animal sacrifice and cooperate with municipal authorities to maintain hygiene in residential areas throughout the Eid holidays.
