Extreme heat is disrupting academic activities, particularly in small private schools lacking basic facilities like fans, clean water, and proper ventilation. The situation is dire in congested school buildings in cities like Lahore and rural districts, where students are exposed to intense heat during midday hours.

The Punjab government is considering early closure of schools due to the ongoing heatwave, with a decision expected later this week. The School Education Department was previously warned of a heatwave from May 15–19, with temperatures expected to rise by 4 to 7°C. Despite advisories, many schools have not implemented adequate safety measures.

Last year, schools were closed in late May and switched to online classes. This year’s summer vacation is officially set from June 1 to August 9, but early closure remains a strong possibility due to health concerns.
