Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” marked his 36th birthday on April 18, 2025, while still in a coma—nearly 21 years after a life-altering car accident in 2005. The incident occurred while he was studying at a military college in London, leading to severe brain trauma and a subsequent coma.

Since the accident, Prince Al-Waleed has been on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh. Despite medical advice urging the withdrawal of life support, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, has refused, holding firmly to his belief in divine will and the possibility of a miracle. “If God had meant for him to die in that accident, he would have passed away then,” Prince Khaled once said, demonstrating his enduring faith and devotion.

Over the years, the prince has shown minimal physical responses—such as moving a finger or twitching his head—but has not regained full consciousness. His father remains by his side, offering constant care and emotional strength.

On his 36th birthday, supporters around the world took to social media to express their solidarity and prayers. Princess Rima bint Talal shared a heartfelt message on X: “My beloved Al-Waleed, twenty-one years and you are always present in our hearts. O Allah, heal Your servant Al-Waleed.”

A great-grandson of King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, Prince Al-Waleed has become a symbol of perseverance, faith, and family devotion. While the chances of recovery after such a long coma are slim, the family continues to hope that future medical advancements may offer a path to healing.
