The Supreme Court of Pakistan has appointed Barrister Salman Safdar as a Friend of the Court (Amicus Curiae) to independently assess the treatment and living conditions of former Prime Minister Imran Khan during his incarceration.
The court directed Safdar to visit Adiala Jail and meet Imran Khan in person to evaluate his physical health, mental well-being, and the facilities provided to him. Judges stressed that Safdar must be granted full and unhindered access, instructing jail authorities to ensure complete cooperation during the visit.

During the hearing, the court clarified that earlier assessments related to Imran Khan’s detention at another facility were no longer sufficient, as his circumstances and place of imprisonment have changed. A fresh and independent review was therefore deemed necessary.
Salman Safdar has been tasked with submitting a detailed written report within a short timeframe. The court will review the findings before deciding on further legal proceedings. Concerns regarding limited access to Imran Khan by his legal team were also raised during the hearing.
