The Zilhaj Moon Sighted Pakistan announcement has officially confirmed that Eid ul Azha 2026 will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday, May 27, following the sighting of the Zil Hajj crescent moon.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee made the final announcement after receiving verified moon sighting reports from different regions of Pakistan. According to the committee, the 1st of Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri will begin on Monday, May 18, while the Day of Arafah will be observed on Tuesday, May 26.
Chairman Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed the decision during an official meeting attended by religious scholars, meteorological experts, and representatives from relevant departments. The committee relied on both scientific calculations and physical moon sighting testimonies before issuing the final declaration.

Earlier projections from SUPARCO had already indicated a strong possibility of the crescent being visible on the evening of May 17 due to favorable atmospheric and astronomical conditions. The space agency had predicted that Eid ul Azha would likely fall on May 27 if the moon was successfully sighted.
With the official confirmation now announced, preparations for Eid ul Azha have accelerated across Pakistan as livestock markets, shopping centers, transport services, and businesses prepare for one of the country’s biggest religious festivals.
The government is also expected to announce public holidays for Eid ul Azha in the coming days, with reports suggesting a possible extended break for citizens nationwide.
