Last week, we reported that Chery International’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands are gearing up to introduce new cars in Pakistan. In an exclusive live stream, Mr. Ryan Wang, the Brand Manager of Omoda and Jaecoo, shared more details about the Omoda E5 EV and Jaecoo J7 PHEV.
The Omoda E5, positioned as a mainstream electric vehicle, is specifically targeted at Gen-Z buyers and a younger demographic due to its distinctive styling choices and advanced features. On the other hand, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is positioned as a luxurious off-road SUV, catering to high-end buyers.
Chery International claims that the J7 PHEV surpasses its competitors with superior styling, larger infotainment screens, enhanced driver assist features, and superior off-roading capabilities, courtesy of a locking differential. This is anticipated to give it a competitive edge in the Pakistani market.

Addressing the challenge of Pakistan’s limited electric car charging infrastructure, Omoda has announced plans to establish charging stations in major cities across the country.
As for pricing, no final details have been disclosed for the Pakistani market, but the prices are expected to be competitive. The Omoda E5 will likely compete with the MG ZS EV, while the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will target vehicles like the Toyota Corolla Cross and Hyundai Santa Fe. Initial pricing information indicates that the Omoda E5 costs around Rs. 1 crore in Malaysia, and the Jaecoo J7 PHEV’s pricing is yet to be finalized. Prices in Pakistan are expected to be slightly higher due to duties and taxes.
Mr. Ryan Wang expressed the company’s eagerness to launch these vehicles in Pakistan at the earliest, with the exact launch date anticipated to be finalized by the second half of 2024.
It’s worth noting that Chery International’s presence in Pakistan currently includes the assembly and sale of two vehicles, namely the Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, by Ghandhara Automobiles. However, the launch of Omoda and Jaecoo vehicles will not be in partnership with Ghandhara Nissan. Mr. Ryan Wang revealed that a different company would be chosen as a partner for the launch of these vehicles in the country.
With an impressive income of CNY 300 billion in 2023 and nearly 1 million vehicles exported within the same year, Chery International is eyeing significant growth in the Pakistani market. The company has maintained its status as the largest passenger vehicle exporter in China for the past 21 years.
