Asif Ali Zardari, a seasoned Pakistani politician and co-chairman of the PPP, was sworn in as President of Pakistan for the second time on Sunday. The ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath of office.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, service chiefs, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, governors, chief ministers, and top diplomats, making it a high-profile affair.
Zardari, the joint candidate of the ruling alliance, secured victory in the election, surpassing PTI-backed candidate Mahmood Achakzai by a significant margin. He garnered 411 electoral votes in parliament and all four provincial assemblies with the support of allied parties.

In the National Assembly, Zardari received 225 votes compared to Achakzai’s 119. In Sindh, he obtained 53 votes while his opponent received three. The Punjab Assembly saw Zardari securing 43 votes to Achakzai’s 18, while in the KP Assembly, he gained eight votes against 41 for his opponent. In the Balochistan Assembly, Zardari received 47 votes, while Achakzai received none.
This marks Zardari’s second term as president, having previously served from 2008 to 2013. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018.
