The crescent for Ramadan 2024 has been sighted in Lahore on Monday evening, with Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad announcing that Ramadān 1445 will commence on Tuesday. Maulana Azad made the declaration following a meeting where testimonies regarding the moon sighting were confirmed from various parts of the country.

Azad stated that it was unanimously agreed upon that the holy month would commence on March 12, extending congratulations to the people and the Muslim community as Ramadan begins. Earlier discussions emphasized the significance of holding similar meetings by zonal committees in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad to ascertain the moon sighting for Ramadan 1445 AH.

Members of the apex moon sighting committee convened at the Awqaf Hall on Charsadda Road, with representatives from the Meteorological Department, SPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology also participating in the discussions to determine the sighting of the Ramadan moon.

Following the meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at the Auqaf Administrator’s office in Peshawar, Azad announced that testimonies about the moon sighting were received from various parts of Pakistan, including Peshawar, Lahore, Swat, and Sargodha. Based on this information, it was unanimously decided that Ramadan would commence on March 12. Azad conveyed congratulations to the people and the Muslim community on the commencement of the holy month.

Ramadan 2024 in Pakistan commences hours after the moon was spotted in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Saudi Arabia declared the beginning of the holy month on Monday, March 11, following the sighting of the crescent on Sunday evening. Similarly, the UAE’s moon-sighting committee confirmed the sighting, marking the start of Ramadan in the country on the same day.

In other countries such as Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei, Ramadan will commence on March 12. However, Oman will observe the start of Ramadan on March 12, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Sunday evening.
