A signing ceremony was held on Thursday between the Governments of Pakistan and Japan for the Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreements regarding two Japanese grant-in-aid projects. These projects are titled “Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Sukkur City” and “The Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities in Sindh.”
The Government of Japan has provided additional grant amounts totaling JPY 832 million ($5.4 million) for the Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Sukkur City and JPY 671 million ($4.4 million) for The Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities in Sindh. This support has been extended to the Government of Pakistan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The objectives of these grant-in-aid projects are to enhance the capabilities of the Pakistan Meteorological Department in meteorological observation, weather forecasting, and the dissemination of forecasts and warnings. Additionally, the projects aim to strengthen medical services at the children’s hospital and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) center in Liaqat University Hospital, Hyderabad/Jamshoro, Sindh.

The Notes of the projects were signed and exchanged by Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), and WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, on behalf of their respective governments. The Grant Agreements were signed by Mr. Saeed Ashraf Siddiqi, Joint Secretary of EAD, and Mr. Naoaki MIYATA, Chief Representative of JICA Pakistan.
Dr. Kazim Niaz expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their valuable support, and he assured them of extending all necessary facilitation for more meaningful cooperation between the two sides.
WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan, affirmed his commitment to working closely with the Government of Pakistan to further strengthen friendly ties and bilateral cooperation.
