Oppo’s latest entries in the Reno series, the Reno 12 and 12 Pro, have arrived, boasting a thinner and lighter build compared to their predecessors, yet offering enhanced durability. These devices mark the introduction of a quad-curved display in the Reno lineup, lending a premium aesthetic.

Design and Display: Both the Reno 12 and 12 Pro feature a familiar display size from the previous year, with a 6.7-inch OLED panel delivering 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the notable enhancement lies in the screen’s curvature, now extending to all sides for a sleeker appearance. The introduction of a new die-cast aluminum alloy frame adds robustness, ensuring better resistance to drops while maintaining a slim profile compared to the Reno 11 series. Additionally, these phones are IP68 water-resistant, with the display being responsive even to wet fingers.

Internals and Software: The Reno 12 Pro swaps out the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip for a Dimensity 9200+, maintaining flagship-grade performance. Global variants of the Reno 12 Pro may feature different SoCs. Meanwhile, the standard Reno 12 houses a Dimensity 8250 processor, equivalent to the older Dimensity 8200 but with a new naming convention. Both models offer generous storage options of up to 512 GB and 16 GB of RAM. True to the trend of 2024, AI capabilities are integrated into both devices, facilitating tasks like image editing, transcription, summarization, translation, and more.

Cameras: In the Pro variant, a 50MP primary camera with an IMX890 image sensor headlines the imaging setup, accompanied by a 50MP 2x telephoto lens and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The standard model boasts a slightly smaller 50MP main sensor (LYT600, 1/1.95”), along with the same 50MP 2x telephoto lens and 8MP ultra-wide lens. Both devices feature an impressive 50MP front-facing camera.

Battery and Pricing: Equipped with 5,000 mAh batteries and supporting 80W charging, both Reno 12 variants promise enduring performance. Oppo claims these phones are designed to retain 95% of their original battery capacity even after 1,000 charge cycles. In terms of pricing, the Reno 12 starts at $375 in China, while the Reno 12 Pro is priced at $470.
