Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad, has warned that any future escalation between Pakistan and India could lead to an extremely dangerous situation.

General Sahir Shamshad stated that Pakistan and India have returned to the pre-April 22 status quo. Previously, tensions between the two nations were limited to disputed territories, but this time, the conflict reached international borders.

Speaking about the current situation, he said both countries are now nearing the pre-conflict level of military deployment, with both sides starting the process of reducing their troop presence.

Although there was no movement towards nuclear weapons during the conflict, the situation remained highly volatile. This time, the fighting extended beyond Kashmir and targeted mainland military installations in both countries, raising the risk of future escalation.

General Sahir further stated that future conflict may not remain restricted to disputed areas, but could spread across all of India and Pakistan, describing it as an “extremely dangerous trend.”

He also revealed that no backchannel or informal dialogue is currently underway to de-escalate tensions. He added that he has no plans to meet Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
