Pakistan recorded a sharp increase in mobile phone imports during the first five months of fiscal year 2025–26, highlighting a strong rebound in consumer demand. From July to November, the country imported mobile phones worth over $801 million, reflecting an increase of more than 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

On a monthly basis, imports continued to show growth momentum, with November registering higher import values than October. However, when compared year-on-year, November figures showed a slight decline, suggesting some market volatility.

The rise in imports comes after a period of reduced inflows last year, when tighter economic conditions and import restrictions had significantly impacted the mobile phone market. The recent growth indicates improved availability of foreign exchange and easing trade conditions.

Despite the increase in imports, domestic assembly and manufacturing of mobile phones continue to play a major role in meeting local demand. Pakistan’s mobile device industry has expanded in recent years, with millions of handsets being produced locally alongside imported units.

The combined growth of imports and local production reflects a recovering telecom sector and renewed consumer interest in smartphones across the country.
