NADRA clarified that digital CNICs — accessible via mobile apps — carry the same legal validity as traditional plastic CNIC cards and can be presented during official identity checks, document verifications, and service registrations where digital identity acceptance is permitted.
Officials also highlighted that the adoption of the digital CNIC aligns with Pakistan’s broader efforts to modernize public services, improve e‑governance, and promote digital inclusion across both urban and rural populations.

The authority emphasized that the digital CNIC incorporates secure biometrics and cryptographic safeguards, designed to prevent identity fraud and unauthorized access while ensuring seamless online or in‑person verification.
In light of this update, citizens are encouraged to download and register their digital CNIC through official NADRA channels to take full advantage of the legal recognition and convenience it provides.
