The Utility Stores Corporation has announced an extension of its operating hours aimed at enhancing convenience for citizens. This decision, reportedly made in response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives as part of the Ramadan relief package, will see utility stores open until 10 pm after Iftar to better serve the public. Additionally, employees will receive a daily Iftar allowance of Rs. 500.

Contrary to earlier reports, it has been clarified that utility stores will not be reducing prices for three essential commodities – sugar, flour, and ghee – as part of the government’s Rs. 7.5 billion Ramadan relief package. Despite the package announcement, prices for these items will remain unchanged. Under this scheme, a 10-kilogram bag of flour will be priced at Rs. 648, sugar for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) beneficiaries at Rs. 109 per kilogram, and ghee at Rs. 365 per kilogram.
The management of utility stores explained that the decision not to decrease prices for sugar, flour, and ghee was influenced by the fact that BISP beneficiaries already receive these items at discounted rates.
