The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Islamabad today to observe the Zilhajj moon for the Islamic year 1446 Hijri. The session will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad. At the same time, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees across the country will hold their respective meetings to collect and verify moon sighting testimonies.

The appearance of the Zilhajj moon signifies the start of the sacred Islamic month during which millions of Muslims travel to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.

Eid-ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated on the 10th day of Zilhajj and is anticipated to fall on June 7 this year, subject to moon sighting confirmation.

The festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Muslims observe Eid-ul-Adha by sacrificing animals such as goats, cows, or sheep, with the meat shared among family, friends, and the less fortunate. The celebrations typically extend over three days, emphasizing the values of sacrifice, charity, and community.
