Experts Predict Pakistan’s Freelancers to Surpass $1 Billion in Yearly Earnings
Pakistan’s freelancing sector is on track to surpass $1 billion in annual earnings, with experts attributing the growth to enhanced training, institutional backing, and the country’s expanding digital ecosystem.
Speaking at the AI Beyond Borders Summit 2025 during the 26th ITCN Asia powered by Innovista in Karachi, stakeholders emphasized the role of freelancers in fueling Pakistan’s digital economy. They highlighted that freelancers not only bring foreign exchange but also strengthen global confidence in Pakistani talent, creating opportunities for youth and women alike.
Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers’ Association (PAFLA), noted that Pakistan’s freelancing workforce is nearing a milestone, with earnings set to exceed $1 billion annually and the number of freelancers expected to surpass 2.3 million soon. He credited the collaborative efforts of PAFLA, Innovista, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and 1Link for enabling freelancers to connect talent with innovation.

In his keynote, Tahir Malik, Project Director at Innovista Indus, outlined initiatives aimed at entrepreneurship and mentorship for freelancers. He also introduced the National Agentic AI Hackathon, which will host 1,000 participants across six cities. “Our mission is to make freelancing a competitive and sustainable source of foreign exchange that contributes directly to IT exports and livelihoods nationwide,” Malik said.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Shahzab from 1Link stressed the significance of a reliable digital financial ecosystem. He explained that 1Link is building seamless payment solutions that enable fast, transparent, and efficient transfers for freelancers, strengthening their ability to compete globally.
With Pakistan already ranked among the top five freelancing markets worldwide, targeted policies, improved financial integration, and AI-driven innovation are expected to scale the sector even further. The summit also featured insights from AI experts and mentors such as Imran Ali Dina, Khadija Shahzad, Hassan Bin Liaquat, Ammara Aftab, and Fahad Shaikh, alongside a panel discussion on freelancing in the era of AI.
