OnePlus has officially launched its latest flagship smartphones, the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R, initially released in the Chinese market at the end of 2023 and now making their global debut. The global unveiling took place during a launch event held in New Delhi, India. While the international versions of these phones are almost identical, the key distinction lies in the software. The Chinese variants come with Oppo’s ColorOS UI, while the global models feature a modified version of the classic Oxygen OS, designed to align with ColorOS aesthetics.

OnePlus 12

The standout feature of the OnePlus 12 is its massive 9,140 mm² vapor chamber, the largest to date, known as the Dual Cryo-velocity VC Cooling System. This innovative cooling system, placed on both sides to dissipate heat from both the screen and the back, caters to gaming enthusiasts.

The device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, offering a 30% faster CPU and a 25% quicker GPU compared to its predecessor, the Gen 2.

Memory configurations include up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a generous 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage (with 24 GB and 1 TB variants reserved for the Chinese market). The OnePlus 12 features a cutting-edge 6.82-inch LTPO 4.0 AMOLED display with a 1440 x 3168 pixel resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The display boasts exceptional brightness capabilities, reaching up to 4,500 nits in localized areas and 1,600 nits across the entire screen.

In the camera department, the OnePlus 12 sports a 50MP LYT-808 main sensor with OIS, a 64MP periscope telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom, a 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 32MP selfie camera. The device is equipped with a 5,400 mAh battery and supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Notably, the American variant is limited to 80W wired charging. The OnePlus 12 is available in Flowy Emerald (green) and Silky Black, with a starting price of $799 in the international market.

OnePlus 12R

Marking its debut outside the Indian market, the OnePlus 12R offers many similar features at a more budget-friendly price point. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from 2023, with configurations providing up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, the OnePlus 12R caters to power users. It shares the same dual VC (9,140mm2) chamber as the OnePlus 12 for optimal thermal performance.

The OnePlus 12R features a 6.78-inch LTPO4 AMOLED display with a resolution of 1264 x 2780 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The display matches the OnePlus 12 with an impressive peak brightness of 4,500 nits in localized areas and 1,600 nits across the entire screen. With a 5,500 mAh battery and 100W wired charging, the OnePlus 12R lacks wireless charging. Despite the lower display resolution, the OnePlus 12R offers a smooth user experience at a more affordable price point, making it an attractive option for consumers.

The OnePlus 12R launches at a much cheaper starting price of $500. The available colors are Iron Gray and Cool Blue.
