Searching on Google just got a whole lot easier for Windows users. Instead of opening a browser and typing in Google, you can now search directly from your desktop with Google’s new experimental floating search bar app for Windows.
The app, launched under Google Labs, allows you to run searches without leaving your work. Results appear in a pop-up window with support for images, news, videos, shopping, and even Google AI Mode for quick summaries.
One standout feature is Google Lens integration, which lets you highlight text or images on your screen to search instantly, translate, copy, or identify objects. This makes it far more powerful than just a traditional search tool.

How It Works:
- Download the app from Google Labs.
- Install and sign in with your Google account.
- Launch the search bar anytime with Alt + Spacebar.
The app works on both Windows 10 and 11, but for now, it’s limited to users in the US. Since it’s experimental, spots are limited, and some bugs may occur.
With competition from ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, this move shows Google’s push to keep search relevant and more accessible. For users, it means faster searches, fewer distractions, and boosted productivity—all for free.
