Allstate Protection Plans has conducted a series of durability tests on Apple’s latest iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air, assessing how the redesigned devices perform under real-world stress conditions. The results highlight both their strengths and weaknesses compared to earlier iPhone models and industry standards.
Bend Test Results
The iPhone 17 Pro proved highly resilient, withstanding more than 90 kilograms of pressure before showing any deformation. The slimmer iPhone Air, despite its ultra-thin 5.6 mm profile, bent at 86 kilograms of pressure — an impressive feat given its design. Importantly, both devices continued functioning even after the stress tests, indicating strong structural integrity. Testers confirmed that these pressure levels are far greater than anything phones typically endure in everyday use.
Drop Test Results
Drop tests from 1.8 meters revealed a more concerning outcome. Both models’ Ceramic Shield 2 front panels shattered on impact, leaving sharp cracks that made the devices unsafe to use without protective accessories. In rear drop tests, the iPhone 17 Pro emerged with only minor scuffs, while the iPhone Air’s back glass was completely destroyed under the same conditions.

Overall, the findings suggest that while the iPhone Air is impressively resistant to bending, it remains more vulnerable to accidental drops. A protective case and screen protector are strongly recommended for daily use.
