Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has halted a plan to buy new video conferencing equipment for district courts in Punjab, citing economic challenges. The existing equipment, including laptops and Wi-Fi, will be used instead.

This decision comes after a previous order from the court’s former registrar directed all district and session judges to purchase video conferencing equipment for recording evidence and legal proceedings. This project was estimated to cost a significant Rs. 1 billion.
Chief Justice Neelum, who oversees IT for the courts, prioritized cost-saving measures and stopped the equipment purchase. Video conferencing will still be used in the courts, but with the existing technology. This ensures the continuation of recording evidence and legal proceedings without disruption.
