Pakistan has taken a major step toward the introduction of 5G mobile services after its federal cabinet approved the 5G spectrum auction scheduled to take place in February 2026. The approval marks a key milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize the country’s telecommunications landscape and expand next-generation network capabilities.
Under the plan, 600 MHz of telecom spectrum will be offered for bidding, which is expected to support both 4G enhancements and the rollout of 5G services. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will soon issue a formal information memorandum to invite applications from telecom operators interested in participating in the auction.

Officials have emphasized that the spectrum auction is part of a broader strategy to improve broadband quality, boost internet speeds, and enhance digital connectivity for consumers and businesses. Following the allocation of spectrum, Pakistan anticipates significant expansion of high-speed mobile networks and improved service quality across major cities.
With preparations underway, the auction is expected to be completed ahead of its February 2026 schedule, accelerating the timeline for the commercial launch of 5G technology in the country.
