Pakistan has signed its fifth Country Programme Framework (CPF) with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), setting technical cooperation priorities for 2026–2031. The agreement was formalized on the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna by Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and IAEA Deputy Director General Hua Liu.
The CPF acts as a medium-term roadmap, guiding areas of nuclear technology transfer and cooperation to support Pakistan’s national development. Under the new framework, Pakistan will focus on five priority sectors: food and agriculture, human health and nutrition, climate change and water resource management, nuclear power and radiation, and nuclear safety.

According to the IAEA, the partnership will also help Pakistan enhance capabilities in emergency preparedness, radioactive waste management, safe nuclear transport, and the integration of artificial intelligence into regulatory systems.
Pakistan, a member of the IAEA since 1957, has previously collaborated with the agency on several peaceful nuclear technology initiatives. Dr. Anwar emphasized that the agreement reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology while contributing to the country’s sustainable development goals.
