Pakistan has renewed efforts to restart direct flights to the United States, with senior government officials expressing hope that operations could begin in the near future.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently stated that the government is eager to see direct air connectivity restored between Pakistan and the US. His remarks came during a meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker in Islamabad.

The discussions focused on bilateral relations, regional security cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, and aviation connectivity between the two countries. Pakistani officials emphasized that restoring direct flights would strengthen economic ties, improve travel convenience for overseas Pakistanis, and enhance business and tourism opportunities.

Direct flights between Pakistan and the US were suspended years ago following aviation safety concerns and international restrictions imposed on Pakistan International Airlines after the 2020 Karachi plane crash and pilot license controversy. Since then, Pakistan has been working closely with international aviation authorities to improve safety standards and restore confidence in its aviation sector.

The latest push comes after Pakistan successfully resumed direct flights to the United Kingdom earlier this year. Officials believe the restoration of US routes would further improve the global standing of Pakistan’s aviation industry and open new opportunities for travelers.

Government representatives also highlighted that security arrangements for foreign companies operating in Pakistan, including firms involved in the Reko Diq Mine project, have been strengthened to encourage broader international cooperation.

Although no official launch date has been announced yet, both sides reportedly showed interest in moving discussions forward quickly, raising hopes that direct Pakistan-US flights could return after several years of suspension.
