Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced a major revision to the examination schedule for matric and intermediate students, shifting the dates beyond Ramadan and Eid. The decision marks a significant change from the earlier timetable issued by the provincial education boards.

According to the minister, matriculation exams are now expected to begin around March 24, 2026, with intermediate examinations likely to take place afterward. The move aims to provide students with a more favorable academic environment, allowing them to prepare without the added challenges of fasting during Ramadan.

This announcement comes more than a week after the Punjab Education Department had released the initial schedule for the 2026 academic session. Under the previous plan, matric exams were set to start on March 3, 2026, while intermediate exams were scheduled from May 5, 2026.

The revised timeline aligns the assessment period with the post-Ramadan months, a step the government says will help students concentrate better and reduce academic stress during the holy month. Education officials are expected to issue updated notifications to all boards and relevant authorities soon.
