The Punjab government has issued firm directives to environmental and municipal authorities to address the growing concern of untreated sewage flowing into Rawal Dam, a key water source for Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

In a recent high-level meeting, officials emphasized the need to prevent domestic wastewater from residential areas such as Bani Gala and Bahria Enclave from entering the lake. The pollution poses serious health and environmental risks for the twin cities.

To combat the issue, an inter-departmental task force has been established. This team is responsible for identifying major sewage discharge points, setting up proper wastewater treatment facilities, and overseeing regular maintenance and monitoring of the tributaries leading to Rawal Dam.

The government aims to implement these measures effectively by early next year, ensuring cleaner drinking water and reduced environmental degradation in the region.
