Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman chaired a high-level meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to review the situation in flood-affected districts, where precautionary measures — including a possible extension of summer vacations — were discussed.

Schools in the province are officially scheduled to reopen on September 1 after the summer break. However, the government is considering a one-week extension due to the ongoing flood emergency and the use of school buildings as shelters for displaced families.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that schools in the hardest-hit areas have already opened their doors to provide refuge and support to affected families. He stressed that the safety of students remains the government’s top priority.

Authorities noted that a final decision regarding the extension of school holidays will be announced soon after assessing conditions in flood-stricken districts.
