Tecno Reveals Tri-Fold Phone Concept Before Huawei

The Phantom Ultimate 2 features an impressive 10-inch display when fully unfolded, rivaling the size of many tablets. In its folded state, the device offers a 6.48-inch screen. Unfolded, it reveals a 10-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1,620 x 2,880 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio. This expansive screen effectively bridges the gap between smartphones, small tablets, and full-sized tablets.

A key highlight of the Phantom Ultimate 2 is its use of TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration) technology, which integrates the display driver and touch sensor into a single chip. This advancement, combined with a custom dual-hinge mechanism, allows the phone to maintain a slim profile of just 11 mm when folded. Tecno claims that the hinge mechanism has been rigorously tested to withstand up to 300,000 folds.

The phone’s sleek design is further enhanced by an ultra-thin battery cover, which is only 0.25 mm thick. The Phantom Ultimate 2 also supports screen hovering, adding to its array of unique features.

Tecno’s dual-hinge design not only contributes to a slim profile but also helps reduce the screen crease commonly seen in foldable phones. The company envisions several innovative uses for the Phantom Ultimate 2, such as a laptop-like configuration where the lower half acts as a keyboard for note-taking. Another possibility is “tent mode,” where the phone is positioned with two halves facing opposite directions, making it ideal for dual-screen video calls with live translation capabilities.

Additionally, the 10-inch display supports multi-window mode, allowing users to operate three or more apps simultaneously, thus offering a more versatile multitasking experience.

While Tecno has yet to announce a release date for the Phantom Ultimate 2, this tri-fold phone represents an exciting step forward in foldable phone technology.
