Meta has confirmed that WhatsApp now supports Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android, making chats more dynamic and expressive. The update allows iPhone users to share moving, sound-enabled photos, while Android users can share similar motion-enhanced images. However, the rollout is gradual, with some iOS users currently able to receive Live Photos but not send them.
In addition to Live Photos, WhatsApp has introduced several new features in recent months:
- Chat themes with Meta AI: Users can personalize chats with custom themes, some generated with AI.
- New sticker packs: Fun packs like Fearless Bird and Vacation are now available.

- Simplified group search: Searching for a contact will now display all groups you share with that person.
- Document scanning on Android: Users can scan, crop, and share documents directly within the app.
- AI-powered video call backgrounds: Meta AI can create custom and creative backgrounds for video calls, photos, and videos.
The addition of Live Photos and Motion Photos, alongside AI tools, stickers, and themes, positions WhatsApp as a more personal and creative messaging platform. Users who don’t see the new feature yet may need to wait a little longer as the global rollout continues.
