PTA Streamlines VPN Registration Process to Support Business Operations in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has streamlined the process for registering Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to ensure that businesses in Pakistan can maintain uninterrupted and secure internet services. This new initiative has been welcomed by software houses, call centers, freelancers, and foreign missions or embassies, all of whom are now registering their VPNs to facilitate smooth online operations.
The PTA has emphasized that this updated VPN registration process is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance digital infrastructure in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT), the Pakistan Software Export Board, and the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA). To date, over 20,000 IPs have been successfully registered.

Businesses are required to register their VPNs through the dedicated portal at https://ipregistration.pta.gov.pk/ to ensure seamless and secure online operations. The registration can now be completed through a One Window operation available on both the PTA and Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) portals.
This initiative aims to help businesses maintain secure online activities amidst new restrictions that have been implemented.
In related news, a petition has been filed challenging the installation of a new firewall and the resultant slow internet speeds, which are affecting the digital economy. The petition argues that the firewall’s installation could infringe upon citizens’ fundamental rights and calls for a halt to the current measures.
