In a rather unusual back-to-school marketing stunt by Chinese manufacturer OnePlus, the OnePlus 9 Pro is actually getting a limited edition with “snackable” packaging – and hence mimicking Oscar Mayer Lunchables that many students take with them in their backpacks.

Indeed the Chinese manufacturer is giving away just 15 limited edition phones via its US Instagram account – starting from the 23rd of August. While OnePlus doesn’t appear to have made a deal with Oscar Mayer, the packaging does indeed make a lot of nods to the Lunchables design – for example, going on to highlight 5G support as well as a 120Hz display as nutrition facts.

However, though, nothing about the phone or indeed the accessories has actually changed. The only other things in the box are OnePlus’ Warp cable and Warp Charge 65T adapter – with the latter allowing 65W charging.

Of course, the OnePlus 9 Pro shipped back in March of last year. OnePlus’ top of the product makes use of a 6.7-inch AMOLED display and also boasts other “premium” features such as a 48MP main camera as well as camera software which happens to be developed with Hasselblad.

Of course, though, the back-to-school season is a rather important target for a wide range of electronics makers. Many students do legitimately need new phones, computers, tablets and other electrical equipment. This then is the perfect opportunity for many manufacturers all across the globe, including OnePlus, to hook a new generation into the company’s ecosystem.

OnePlus also has been on the receiving end of a fair bit of criticism in the more recent times due to the company’s ever-increasing smartphone prices. Initially debuting as the flagship killer, the prices of some of its smartphones now rival those that it once set out to “kill.” So in a way, one might even go as far as thinking that marketing projects such as these might end up making the company a fav favorite once again.
