The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan stated on Wednesday that the biggest challenges faced by his government and a challenge which is a constant struggle is that of improving the state institutions and only by doing so could the country be governed in a sustainable way for the nation. He said this while he was delivering his speech in the address at the World Economic Forum (WEF). The Prime Minister started his address by talking about how the new government has started the initiative which is known as the Billion Tree Tsunami project in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and he was adamant that this was “one of the most successful campaigns across the country.”
He then talked about the provincial government which was in charge in 2013 and how they had taken the initiative to involve local communities in the campaign to plant more trees. “We made people understand that Pakistan was vulnerable to climate change,” stated the Prime Minister. “Women in the mountainous regions took part in planting nurseries.”He further stated that said by far the biggest challenges that are faced by the nation throughout its history was, getting involved in conflicts. He gave the example of the Soviet war in Afghanistan and how the Afghanistan invasion had consequences on Pakistan.
He said that “Since our government got elected, we decided Pakistan will never become part of anyone’s war now,”. PM Imran said his government had decided to resolve conflicts between other countries but had an adamant stance that they will not be part of any side when it comes to war. He also said that Islamabad played a vital role when it came to defuse tensions between the US and Iran as well as “easing tensions” between Iran and Saudi Arabia. PM Imran said Pakistan was playing its part to ensure peace prevailed in Afghanistan and that it was the “nearest we are to some sort of peace in Afghanistan.”
